Dear Mr. Allister,

I really am not sure if I am addressing the right person or even the right post. i can see it's been posted last year already.
My name is Sarah Chogsom, I am from Mongolia and also a freelance translator (English Mongolian). In fact, I and my husband, we are board game fans. Some of our friends from England and the States happened to bring and that's how we've been ADDICTED to it. Our family, as well as other mongolian families enjoy it! I think it's great game, and the number of people interested are still increasing. We happened to fall in love with the game that we were tempted buy it over from the States. Of course we had to pay twice as much for the game. Cos, we live on the other side of the world!
Mongolia is a developing country. I do not know what knowledge you have of the country. but it definitely seems that our people here are desperate for some good games. The only board games we have is the mongolized, maybe almost a "pirated bad copy" of the Monopoly. even though the game seemed to cost expensive. People are still buying it. We
have one., And we know that it is not-comparable to Catan of course!
Therefore, I am wondering if you look forward to expanding Catan and the other games into mongolian market. Since we only have a population of maximum 3 million ppl. I know this might not be lucrative. However, if you want to be the first to enter and establish this game sector into the society. I believe there is a chance flourish.
I would gladly help in all the processes if you want, or at least translate the materials. Actually, what I was wondering is to have the similar Catan, but Mongolized like the CHinggis Khan era, etc.
Thank you very much for your concern, if you took the patience to read through this.

Yours,
Sarah

Hello,

Mr. Teuber can I ask you a question when Polish language version of this new card game will be available to buy in Poland? I know that you are not the publisher but maybe you can ask some questions at your friends in Kosmos?

Cheers

Great Discussion! I've just started playing and I find the AI to be difficult to beat. In 50 games I have only won 13. I am getting better slowly and my win ratio is also improving. I'm curious about the AI programing and feel that understanding the decision tree built into the AI could help me become a better player. Is there anything written about how the AIs were programmed. Whgat is the best way to learn from the AI? Is there anything available online? Do the AIs play differently than each other? In my game Siegfried, Candamir and Louis are the top three ranked AIs. Is this usually the case? Where are these stats tracked?

A pirate ship can destroy a trade ship of your game partner, whereas with Siward you may have a look into the 3 event cards on the top of the event card stack or the 3 cards on one of your own draw stacks. By playing the pirarte ship your game partner has an immediate disadvantage, but not with the use of Siward. Expansions which may be used in the prepatory round are Drill Ground, Ship Builder, Trade Post, Siward and White Raven Tavern (if you hope that the die is rolled to your advantage)

I think the AI is generally good but I would have three criticisms (partially covered above).
Firstly the robber/pirate is played on the human player more than it proportionately should be at the start of the game before additional victory points are added. The detailed stats regularly show that despite having only 2 VP I've had more resources stolen than all the other players combined.
Secondly I totally agree with the point about lack of situational awareness. The computer won't make an extra effort to build a road or settlement to shut you out and quite often will buy yet another progress card instead. Combined with the fact the computer will often trade you the resource you need to jump them it doesn't feel realistic.
Finally the computer players hoard cards too much and will frequently go bust with 15/20 cards in their hand (especially in C&K). The detailed stats again show just how much this is hurting their chances of winning.

Any news on an online version of Traders and Barbarians?

Referring to the Tournament rules, the restriction on card plays during the preparatory round is not clear.
"Cards that would have a direct effect on the cards in your opponent's hand or on his resources, points, or expansion cards may not be built or used in the preparatory round. However, you may immediately make use of benefits that result from your own expansions."
When I read, these cards cannot be built (due to the first sentence) but I may benefit from my own expansions. Not 100% sure which I can play or not. From the example, I don't understand why "Siward the Scout" is allowed while "Pirate Ship" isn't.

Hehe! Good letters and good stories. No wonder that Judith, and Bran have rivaled it, then they become friends. I think the expansion was very good indeed. Klaus, the new expansion will come to Brazil? I'm anxious! :D
